About the Centre

coral

The GGBC is constructed on four main themes: exploration, education, research and preservation. Together, these themes create an overarching structure in which the centre’s goals and activities are framed.

Exploration

The GGBC promotes the exploration of the amazing diversity of living species in the wild, and both living and preserved specimens in various museums, gardens and private collections. It encourages a deeper understanding of the world’s ecosystems: from the highest mountain tops down through the tropical rainforests, across the boreal tundra and into the depths of the oceans.

Education

The GGBC, through its partner institutions, will offer courses and training at all levels: from elementary school classes to doctoral-level studies. Regular seminars, exhibitions, open days and guided tours with also be organized, with special emphasis on engaging the public.

Research

The GGBC will provide access to unique facilities for cutting-edge biodiversity research. This will be available in combination with scientific support and advice from expert scientists under collaboration agreements.

Conservation

The GGBC will run a portal to major organisations for biodiversity protection. It will also encourage the collection and storage of biological specimens to be used to better understand patterns of biodiversity and how they relate to conservation.
